Safety & Service for the River and its Citizens

The Crescent River Pilots and their families direct their purpose to charitable casues helping the people and environments in the parishes they serve.

For centuries seamen have used a compass to direct them home and to far away ports throughout the world. In our modern age GPS satellite and radar are employed to plot courses and chart depths in high tech detail. The compass is a technical tool of old yet its meaning and purpose is certain and constant. It will guide. The Crescent River Pilots have adopted the compass as a symbol for their charity but instead of the curvature and gravitational pull of the earth, what leads this compass is people. The Crescent River Pilots’ Foundation is guided by the direction of peoples’ needs. It is their job as local captains to see transportation on the river carried out efficiently and safely but it is every pilot’s hope that as a Foundation they can do more for the people in the parishes the they serve.

In navigating this web site you can find out more about the Foundations inception since Hurricane Katrina and the direction its compass is pointing. You can also find out about upcoming events and past events put on to help people in the five parishes they serve. This site also includes information about pilotage history in South Louisiana as well as an educational journey down the muddy Mississippi that pilots traverse daily.

The Crescent River Pilots’ Foundation welcomes you and hopes you learn more about the job and purpose of a river pilot. In turn ,if you see a direction you would like our compass to take in order to help the people of this marvelous and unique region please contact us with your input. Thank you.
