In an effort to give back something to the communities in which they live and work, the Crescent River Port Pilots have created the Crescent River Pilots’ Foundation, an organization committed to supporting charitable causes in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany Parishes.
The Foundation was created on April 12, 2005, not long before South Louisiana was ravaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The devastation caused by these storms and the BP oil spill has shown that efforts by the CRPF are now more important than ever. As the people of Louisiana try to rebuild and the community attempts to redefine itself in this ever changing environment, the Foundation is here to lend a hand through community outreach and fund raising.
Letter from the President
As out going president, having served over the past 5 years, our vision for the CRPF has grown to incorporate a civic project of great magnitude. As a vital part of the regional and national maritime economy, the CRPF is taking a pro-active stance on educating the public about the importance of commerce on the nation's largest river and the role the pilots and various industry partners play in bringing that commerce to port. The plan involves creating several educational kiosks located on the Mississippi Riverfront (East & West banks), adjacent to the French Quarter and Business District.
By explaining the global impact of trade on the Mississippi to the general public, we educate and expand the publics appreciation of the maritime industry and how it relates to daily life in the United States.
-Sallie F. Arnoult, President, March 12, 2006 - April 3, 2011
