Orleans Parish
100 Year Celebration
This Centennial exhibition honors the piloting industry and highlights the unique contribution of the Crescent River Pilots to the maritime industry. It also outlines the exceptional challenges presented in navigating the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Pilottown.
The exhibition includes historical materials, photographs and a video theatre area to pilot oral histories. For more information, please click here.
Night Under the Big Top
The gala included a live auction with large ticket items, a balloon pop, special entertainment by Mr. Irvin Mayfield and some of the city’s finest food from Antoine’s. This successful event brought a much needed boost to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The donation of $25,000 from CRPF gave five children and their families much needed time together away from medical treatment and bills.
Plaquemines Parish
“Stand Bayou” Christmas Celebration at Belle Chasse High School
Fittingly, the Foundation’s first major undertaking was a Christmas celebration to honor and reward key Plaquemines Parish employees who worked so diligently to rebuild Plaquemines following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. With over five hundred attendees it was a huge success. Food, crafts, gifts and entertainment, including local favorite Amanda Shaw brought smiles to families in a time wrought with hardship.
St. Bernard Parish
Los Islenos Festival at the St. Bernard Parish Government Center
Lending a hand in one of the hardest hit areas in New Orleans, the Foundation sponsored a children’s pavilion at the 30th annual Los Islenos festival put on by the Cultural and Heritage Society of Los Islenos. Set up in what was basically a Fema trailor park, the event brought in hundreds of guests and dollars to the needy locale. The children’s pavilion offered Easter egg hunts, relay races, face painting and crafts.
St. Tammany Parish
New Heights Golf Classic 2006
Held at Money Hill Golf and Country Club, the Foundation provided volunteers at the Golf Classic to help serve food and beverage at various tents. The event was put on to raise money for New Heights Therapy Center. Based out of the Folsom Equestrian Center the organization is a progressive equestrian program that teams mentally, emotionally and physically challenged children and adults with horses, instructors, and volunteers in therapeutic riding sessions designed to challenge and inspire the riders.
Other charitable causes to which the Foundation has lent support and donations include Art in April in St. Bernard Parish, and in Orleans Parish, River Fest 2006 and The Bridge House. As the organization grows it will continue to be committed to South Louisiana through more events such as these. If you are part of an organization or know a group in need, please let us know your concerns.
